I’m lucky to meet many fellow collectors via card shows and social media and Ted Strange, or Teddy Ballgame, has been kind enough to contribute to this site to review his retail packs of 2014 Topps Series one. (Previous post w/ checklist) Hopefully he comes back and reviews more packs, so be sure to come back and check!  Thanks again–

Topps Flagship is one of my favorite releases of the year. It brings me back to when I started collecting as a kid. So just like a kid-o, I always go Walmart hopping on the Monday prior to the Topps Main release so I can get my hands on it first. After 3 failed attempts, I found some at my final stop. I plan to buy a hobby box on Wednesday, so I picked up a few rack packs and a blister pack. I am a fan of the blisters due to them not being able to fall victim to the evil pack searchers, plus you get more cards for your money. I spent $20 total and ended up with 148 cards: 125 Base Cards, 9 Inserts, & 14 Parallels: 7 Blue, 1 Gold, 2 Green, 2 Yellow, 2 Red Foil. The product looks great, I wasn’t a big fan of the 2014 base design, but they have grown on me. They are super clean and the design does not take as much away of the photo as I was anticipating. The Super Veteran inserts are great, I’m always down for a throwback card. I’m also excited to complete the Upper Class insert set, great looking cards! I’m a huge fan of the mini blue 1989 cards and I was able to score a Miggy in these packs, still wanting the Ted Williams though. I appreciate the addition of the yellow and green retail parallels. It adds a few more easy to achieve parallels, so you can complete a mini rainbow pretty easy. I didn’t have any auto or relic hits, so I’ll be able to chime in on those after I buy my hobby box. I have a great first impression of 2014 though, excited to buy more and complete the set.
