It was announced that Topps would be adding some oomph to 2014 Topps Chrome with Jumbo boxes.  First thought: WOW! Second thought: But won’t that water down the product?

Maybe.

The rookie class for 2014 baseball has some great names to add to the bunch, and some recent call-ups may make their way into this product as rookie autos that weren’t in Series 1,2.

The jumbo breakdown:

Eight boxes per case.

12 packs per box.

13 cards per pack.

Every jumbo box will include FIVE autograph cards and four 1989 Topps Chrome insert cards.  These ongoing throwback cards have been a delight in the Bowman series so far this year.

Jumbo exclusive inclusions:

AUTOS:

Atomic Refractor numbered to 10. HOBBY & HOBBY JUMBO ONLY
Super-Fractor numbered 1/1. HOBBY & HOBBY JUMBO ONLY
Printing Plates numbered 1/1. HOBBY & HOBBY JUMBO ONLY

Back to Back Die-Cut autos.  Will feature one player and auto on each side of the card.  Numbered to five. (ed. note- These could be kinda neat. Feel like I’ve had enough die-cut though.)

Auto Relic Patch base card variations. Numbered to 10.

Uncut Sheet Redemptions.

Base Parallel Cards:

Atomic Refractor numbered to 10. HOBBY & HOBBY JUMBO ONLY
Super-Fractor numbered 1/1. HOBBY & HOBBY JUMBO ONLY
Printing Plates numbered 1/1. HOBBY & HOBBY JUMBO ONLY

My two cents:

I really enjoy ripping a case worth of chrome.  Well, the one time I did I had a blast doing it.  You get an amazing feel for the collation and get to see all of the parallels work together.  The regular paper-base don’t feel the same paralleled to me and feel it’s been over-done.

Will the new inserts spark interest with collectors? I’m sure, but chrome has two solid things going for it: the rookie autos and the parallels.  Can’t go wrong with an on-card autograph and hopefully it is limited on redemptions.  What do you think of Topps Chrome? Chime in down below-
