PayPal merchant accounts lower fees for buyers

This site uses eBay affiliate links in posts. By purchasing items from these links the site may earn money at no additional cost to you.

If you’re selling a lot of volume online, and utilizing PayPal to process your payments, you may be able to lower your fees and pass the savings down to your customers.

The fees look to help people selling away from online marketplaces, such as eBay, as there are a separate set of fees, but if you run your own website, or you sell through the forums, etc this should apply.

There are stipulations, of course:

Merchant rate fee schedule

Purchase payments received (monthly) Fee per transaction
$0.00 USD – $3,000.00 USD 2.9% + $0.30 USD
$3,000.01 USD – $10,000.00 USD 2.5% + $0.30 USD
$10,000.01 USD – $100,000.00 USD 2.2% + $0.30 USD
> $100,000.00 USD 1.9% + $0.30 USD

Merchant rate approval criteria
Merchant rate pricing approval is reserved for members in good standing (whose accounts are not currently under investigation) who meet the following criteria:

  • Received more than $3,000.00 USD in PayPal payments in the previous calendar month

Maintaining your merchant rate
After qualifying for Merchant rate pricing, all members are expected to:

  • Keep their PayPal account in good standing. Members may be downgraded to the Standard rate if a payment volume of more than $3,000.00 USD is not maintained in the previous calendar month, or if they have unresolved chargebacks.

Note: Members do not need to reapply for merchant rate pricing if payment volume drops below $3,000.00 USD, unless their account is downgraded or if there are unresolved chargebacks.

So collectors, be on the lookout for some of the top online sellers to (hopefully) lower some prices where they can.
