RookiesApp puts you on a trading card

If you collected growing up you may have wondered what it would feel like to be on your own sports card.  As soon as I heard about the RookiesApp program I was immediately intrigued.  I still wanted to know what I would be on a trading card, but quickly learned what array of options could be had.

Right now the RookiesApp is available through the Apple Store, but an Android app is on its way.  It’s a free download and extremely easy to use.  You upload a picture from your device, select template and enter in the text you want.  This is for the front AND the back of the card.  As you go you can see how it will look exactly, so have fun with it.  Once you’re done you just need to pick the images you want to add to your pack. Each pack will contain 20 cards, so you can pick up to 20 different images, or like I did- just one.

If you follow RookiesApp on twitter then you may have seen examples of what you can do with these cards.  They vary from movie icons, to beer menu items, to wedding pictures or in my case: Business cards.

These will be handed out at the upcoming Tristar Productions show in Houston, Texas towards the end of January.

What I think:

These are a really neat idea.  You receive the pack and you get that anxiousness about opening a pack of cards.  These are great for a array of events and functions and definitely different from a standard business card.  To go a bit further; I would like to see different card stock, gloss options available.  The cards I had would feel great with more of an ‘old school’ texture to them.  I’m a collector, so I would think of these things, the average person buying the cards probably wouldn’t care.

The price point seemed fair when I picked them up.  There is no minimum amount of packs you need to purchase.  They are custom printed cards, so you’re going to pay a bit of a premium for each pack.  You’re looking at about $15.99 per pack of 20 cards, but compared to basic business cards or stickers, this is low-range as far as cost goes.  It meant more to me to make a fun statement, rather than using a basic business card.  These are standard size cards, so they fit in sleeves and toploaders- another need tidbit.

Look them up on the website here or on the app store here.
