UPDATE: THE 2014 BOWMAN PLATINUM CHECKLIST!

Pack Preview: 2014 Bowman Platinum Baseball

What to expect:

Bowman Platinum is a prospect-heavy set that also gives collectors an opportunity to collect their favorite current stars as well.  It is a Bowman release afterall.  Last years’ product had plenty of collation issues, but I’m a big supporter of Platinum.  I like the design and it’s a good option for those who can’t afford Sterling to put together a decently-sized set that has plenty of punch.

2014’s version will include two prospect autographs and one autographed relic refractor per hobby box. If the formula stays true, the auto/relics will be sticker, but perhaps we’ll all be suprised.  Just be forwarned when you see your favorite star on the auto/relic list. New additions include a Platinum Cut auto refractor and a Toolsy Die-Cut that will have neat die-cuts representing all of the five different baseball tools.  I’m already hoping for a Springer version. (Astros bias).

What I think:

As I said, I dig this set and it looks like the newly-desiged Bowman logo that was introduced in football is making its way here.  The overall design aspect of Platinum has its moments of good and bad, but overall I think it will be better in person than 2013 Sterling will be.  The addition of fun prospect-driven inserts will make for a fun case or box break.  This can also be fun on a per-pack basis.  Not too much going on where you won’t get the ‘feel of this set.
