Pack Preview: 2012-13 Panini Flawless Basketball

By: Danny Laurel

When Panini America announced they had received rights from Leaf’s Brain Gray for Damian Lillard autographs, basketball fans everywhere had a little extra bounce in their step. One of the products Panini stated having Lillard signatures was Flawless Basketball, and besides the borderline cheeseball name- Flawless basketball is the $1250/pack product that will make National Treasures look like a thrift store find (don’t sing it).

Pack Breakdown:

Seven autographs, two jumbo memorabilia cards and a diamond- or emerald-embedded in every pack.  According to Tracy Hackler of Panini, “No card in the set will be numbered higher than 25 and there will be a maximum of 20 complete base sets available. Diamond-encrusted base cards will be numbered to 20, and will be paralleled by an emerald-embedded version numbered to five and a diamond-embedded 1/1 version. 2012-13 Flawless Basketball is slated to release in early October.”

What we think:

As the saying goes, “If you got it, flaunt it”, if you can swing the $1250 per pack purchase price you’re going to be in for a wild ride.  The fact that every autograph is on-card doesn’t mean anything when you think about the gems embedded into these cards.  Cards with diamonds and emeralds are just fancy and high-end card buyers are going to go crazy for this.  Visually speaking, there isn’t a whole lot going on with the design of these cards that we’ve never seen before, and they do look a whole lot like National Treasures basketball.  Sometimes less is more,no?  Take a look at the gallery and let us know what you think in the comments below.
