2013 Pinnacle Baseball review

In the 1990’s Pinnacle  was one of my favorite baseball sets to collect. You had that sharp black contrasting with the vivid color imagery.  The player’s name flying across the bottom and eventually some nice holo-foil inserts and of course a nice looking Derek Jeter to stash away.

Fast forward to Panini’s reincarnation in 2013.  Can’t say those qualities have held up, and along with Panini’s struggle to be creative with modern baseball sets, Pinnacle is a big swing and miss as far as the base set goes.  Looking at the card, I can’t help but be distracted by the diagonal name plate that takes up the bottom right corner.

The saving grace in this set is the creative inserts.  The clear vision inserts are a nice take on the acetate craze, but with a little more going on.  Check out some more examples of the Clear Vision cards.

One of my favorite inserts from 2013 Golden Age was the playing cards, so it’s no surprise that the Aces inserts are great to look at.  Not a whole lot going on with the design, but they are catapulted with a lackluster base set.  Here are some more Aces inserts.

Here is a few examples of what we pulled and full pack break video below.  Let us know what you think!
